Jan. 2003 - Tarentum, Pennsylvania, United States<br>Text: OBITUARY for Gustave K. <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span>; recent residence: East Deer, PA; published by Duster Funeral Home, Inc.. Gustave K. "Gus" <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span>, 85, of East Deer, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) in Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh. Born Nov. 21, 1917, in Tarentum, he lived there until moving to East Deer in 1980. He retired in 1980 from Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge, where he was a laborer. Mr. <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span> was a life member of the Summit Hose Fire Co., Tarentum. An avid hunter for 68 years, he was featured in a story on the sports page March 3, 2002, in the Valley News Dispatch, when he bagged his 51st deer at the age of 84. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time at his camp in Warren County, which he owned since 1947. He also hunted in Idaho and Wyoming. During the 1950's and 1960's, he was a tournament archer, winning more than 70 first place medals. Mr. <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span> participated in a tournament with Bud Fowkes, a coach for the U.S. Olympic Archery Team. Survivors include two sons, Karl G. (Barbara) <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span> of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Fred O. (Audrey) <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span> of Harrisburg; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are three grandsons, Karl (Kathy) <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span> of RexBurd, Idaho, Jeffrey (Heidi) <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span> and Christopher (Jamie) <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span>, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a granddaughter, Mrs. Lori (Joe) Sermon of RexBurd, Idaho; a step grandson, John (Becky) Hendrickson of Ford City; and a step granddaughter, Mrs. Barbara (John) Antal of Brackenridge. Mr. <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span> was preceded in death by his wife, <span class="highlight-text">Helen</span> <span class="highlight-text">L.</span> "Sally" <span class="highlight-text">Mohar</span> <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span> in 1997; his parents, John and Marie Janowitz <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span>; four brothers, Otto, Adolph, William and Fred <span class="highlight-text">Hanosky</span>; and two sisters, Hattie Busan and <span class="highlight-text">Helen</span> Larrabee. Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., Tenth Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum, where a Blessing Service will be held at noon Friday. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert M. Miller, pastor of Holy Martyrs Parish, Tarentum. Burial will be in Mount Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights, Harrison. Summit Hose Fire Co. will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Forbes Hospice, Washington Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
